Vol. 1: “Women Want to Hear Women” With Elaina Smith

Nash Nights Live co-host Elaina Smith has teamed with Nash Country Daily for an ongoing conversation that we want you to be a part of.

“Women don’t want to hear women.”

It’s a phrase that you may be familiar with in 2018. It’s something that has been said in country music for years. I can’t tell you how many female artists have told me they’ve heard this from bosses, program directors and industry friends. It’s a phrase I have heard in reference to female radio personalities, like myself. In fact, it’s been said to my face on multiple occasions.

I want to reclaim this narrative and prove that women do want to hear women. I want to be a part of moving this conversation forward . . . with YOU!

I want to highlight strong, talented female artists and give them the attention and love they deserve. Female artists have an underrepresented voice in our industry—their messages and representations are important to me, and hopefully you.

So here’s the deal: I’ll be checking in regularly with Nash Country Daily to highlight female country artists through my interviews, podcasts, playlists and opinion pieces. I want to share the reasons I love these artists and help you “discover” them.

This is going to be a group effort, people. Tweet @ElainaDSmith or @NASHCntryDaily to let us know who we should highlight and what questions you want answered. Make sure to use the hashtag: #WomenWantToHearWomen.

To get the conversation kicked off, I’ve curated my first “Women Want to Hear Women” playlist, which is packed with 14 powerful women: Cam, Ashley McBryde, Clare Dunn, Abby Anderson, Maren Morris, Cassadee Pope, Kacey Musgraves, Stephanie Quayle, RaeLynn, Leah Turner, Lindsay Ell, Caitlyn Smith, Rachel Wammack and Kassi Ashton.
