Shaboozey took to X on Tuesday to share his response to the incident. “When you uncover the true history of country music, you find a story so powerful that it cannot be erased…” he wrote. “The real history of country music is about people coming together despite their differences, and embracing and celebrating the things that make us alike.” Shaboozey’s response highlights the powerful and often overlooked influence of Black artists on the history of country music, while also bringing to light the impact that Black guitarist Lesley Riddle had on the Carter Family, as he assisted A.P. Carter in gathering “song material” almost 100 years ago. (People)
