On Wednesday (May 14), Bruce Springsteen shared the previously unreleased song, “Repo Man,” a rollicking honky tonk number recorded during the same sessions as 1995’s The Ghost of Tom Joad. The song is another preview from Springsteen’s upcoming Tracks II: The Lost Albums box set, with “Repo Man” featured on the country-inspired Somewhere North of Nashville album included in the collection. “What happened was I wrote all these country songs at the same time I wrote The Ghost of Tom Joad,” Springsteen said in a statement. “Those sessions completely overlap each other. I’m singing ‘Repo Man’ in the afternoon and ‘The Line’ at night. So the country record got made right along with The Ghost of Tom Joad.” The box set, set to be released on June 27, includes various unreleased tracks from different eras in Springsteen’s career. In addition to prepping the release of Tracks II, Springsteen kicked off the European leg of his Land of Hope and Dreams Tour with the E Street Band in Manchester, England on Wednesday night.
