On Tuesday (May 27), Blake Shelton took to X to personally respond to those who have been critical of him and Gwen Stefani pre-recording their performances at the 2025 American Music Awards on Monday night. “Just now seeing these stories about Gwen and I pretaping our performances for the AMA’s,” Shelton wrote. “We came and performed when the show asked us to.. Really nothing else to say. 🤷‍♂️” During the award show broadcast, Shelton debuted his song, “Stay Country or Die Tryin,'” and later introduced his wife’s performance, where Stefani delivered a medley which featured her country-tinged new single, “Swallow My Tears,” as well as her 2006 hit “The Sweet Escape” and her 2005 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 smash, “Hollaback Girl.” Attendees at the event posted their frustrations on TikTok about the pre-recorded performances, claiming that they expected to see all artists promoted by the show performing live during the ceremony.
