On Wednesday (July 23), Asleep at the Wheel, released a music video for the title track of their upcoming album, Riding High In Texas, featuring vocals by fiddle player Ian Stewart and guest guitarist Billy Strings. The song, a reinterpretation of Peter Rowan’s 1980 bluegrass original, blends the band’s signature pedal steel and fiddle with Strings’ guitar to create a fresh, energetic road anthem. “When we started going through what songs we wanted to do for this project, Ian brought this Peter Rowan tune to the table,” says the band’s frontman Ray Benson. “I thought this was a great tune and I was hooked after hearing the first line.” Asleep at the Wheel is celebrating five decades as Western swing pioneers, and are set to be inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame on August 9. Riding High In Texas will be released on August 22 via Bismeaux Records and Signature Sounds Recordings, with the band touring in support of the record throughout the summer. (Holler)
