If you grew up in the ’80s, a website just put out a list of the “most famous people of 1985,” which was exactly 40 years ago now.
- Michael Jordan. In 1985, Jordan was finishing his rookie season, and was already well on his way to becoming one of the biggest athletes in the world.
- Pete Rose. Speaking of huge athletes, on September 11th of 1985, Pete would break Ty Cobb’s record of 4,191 hits. This was BEFORE his gambling scandal . . . but Pete’s record is STILL standing.
- Madonna and Sean Penn. They were both established stars, especially Madonna. But their coupling elevated both of their statures, especially Sean.
- Michael J. Fox. He was already the breakout star of “Family Ties”, but soared to new heights in the summer of ’85 with “Back to the Future”.
- Phil Collins. Phil’s third solo album, “No Jacket Required”, was a juggernaut, hitting #1 on the Billboard sales charts in just four weeks. This was the one with “Sussudio”, “One More Night”, and “Don’t Lose My Number”.
- Rock Hudson. His first breakthrough was in the ’50s and ’60s, as a conventional leading man. But he achieved another level of notoriety in 1985, when he revealed he had AIDS, and then succumbed to it a few months later.
- Chevy Chase. He had FOUR theatrical films released in 1985, including “Fletch” and “National Lampoon’s European Vacation”.
- Joan Rivers. She broke into the “boy’s club” of late-night television by becoming the permanent guest-host for “The Tonight Show” for the vacationing Johnny Carson. And her ratings sometimes outdrew his.

On Sunday night, some of Texas’ biggest stars took the stage at the Moody Center in Austin. And they didn’t just bring the music, they brought real help to those still affected by the devastating floods. It was called “Band Together Texas” featuring headliners Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum . . . and it was kicked off by a moving introduction from Matthew McConaughey. There were performances from Pat Green and many more. A bunch of well-known Texans also showed up: Dennis Quaid, Roger Clemens, former UT coach Mack Brown, and former players Vince Young, Colt McCoy, and even “The Bachelor’s” Chris Harrison joined in. But pthe best part of the night was an emotional rendition of “How Great Thou Art” by Cody Johnson . . . Not a dry eye in the house. The event raised $8.5 million and counting. Proceeds will support the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation.
Kane Brown showed off a before-and-after photo, revealing a major body transformation in just four months. Kane is saying it’s from a strict diet of mostly meat and veggies, cutting carbs at night, and saying goodbye to alcohol. But not everyone’s buying it. Here’s what one fan said, “I fully support anyone who wants to do performance enhancing drugs. What I don’t support is people doing them and acting like they didn’t, making people think this is possible.” Kane fired back in a now-deleted post, laughing off the claim and even daring critics to test him. He said, “Please, on God, drug test me.” For fans asking how he did it, Kane says he started with a 60-hour fast on just water and black coffee . . . He admitted he still needs tequila for the stage sometimes, but lately, he’s been going dry.
The Jonas Brothers were performing in Virginia Beach on Friday, when they shocked fans by bringing out Hanson . . . and together, all SIX brothers performed “MMMBop”.
