On Thursday (September 25), Richard Sterban, a longtime member of the Oak Ridge Boys, announced that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March and is currently receiving treatment. Known for his earlier performances with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet and collaborations with Elvis Presley before joining the Oak Ridge Boys in 1972, the 82-year-old Sterban remains hopeful to eventually return to touring with the group. “I want to thank everyone, especially the fans, for your concern, and I would appreciate your continued prayers,” Sterban wrote, while optimistically adding, “Most days I’m feeling very good, and I hope to be back out on the road in several months.” His announcement follows the 2024 death of fellow Oak Ridge Boys member Joe Bonsall, who retired from the group due to a neuromuscular disorder and died from ALS complications. The Oak Ridge Boys, a three-time Grammy-winning quartet also including Duane Allen and William Lee Golden along with new member Ben James, plan to resume performances in 2026. (People)
