Back in 2006, when Eric Church was dropped as the opener for Rascal Flatts’ Me and My Gang Tour. If you didn’t know, he was replaced by a 16-year-old Taylor Swift . . . who was fresh off her debut single, “Tim McGraw”. Eric said, “My first major arena tour, I was invited to no longer be a part of . . . I actually found out about it online, that I had been replaced by this blonde-haired singer. She had a song called ‘Tim McGraw’.” And Taylor reached out to Eric after it happened. “She was like, ‘Hope there’s no bad blood, because I love what you do.'” And Eric joked that she owed him her first gold record. It only took a few weeks until Taylor kept her word. At a festival soon after, Taylor handed him her very first gold record. It said, “To Eric, thanks for playing too long and too loud on the tour. Sincerely, Taylor.” Eric didn’t even get to keep it. The record now lives in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
No one gives a motivational speech better than Jelly Roll. His son Noah’s team just lost in flag football. But Jelly had just the right words for the kids after the game. He said, “Hey listen man, this is part of it, baby. You have good days, and you have bad days . . . but above everything, you have fun, and you stick together.” He asked if they had fun and if they learned something, and both times the boys shouted back, “Yes sir!” Jelly closed it out with: “The philosophy we have from this day forward: the Tigers don’t lose, the Tigers LEARN . . . Tell your teammates you love them and you’re proud of ’em, and you’re going to come back next week and kick somebody’s [butt].” Jelly’s wife, Bunnie Xo, filmed the whole thing and posted it on TikTok. Her caption was, “Everybody needs a Jelly pep talk.”
Kacey Musgraves latest Nashville appearance threw some for a loop. Some fans thought they paid to see Kacey in concert . . . but when they got there, they found out it was a live taping of a podcast about mushrooms. It was part of the “Sing for Science” podcast, and it was focused on how psychedelic experiences have shaped Kacey’s music. But it was at the Ryman Auditorium, so you can see why people were confused thinking it was a concert. There were reports of groups of fans in “cute concert outfits” walking out once it became clear there would be no performance. One singer, named Faith Hopkins, posted on TikTok saying she had been hoping for “Slow Burn” but instead got “no singing and lots of big words I didn’t understand.” But Kacey will back in concert – her next performance is tomorrow in Mexico City.
