T.J. OSBORNE came out as gay in February of last year. He wanted to wait until he was ready, but he DID start setting the stage a few years earlier . . . when BROTHERS OSBORNE switched to gender-neutral lyrics. It was because of their 2014 song, “Rum”. He said, “‘Rum’ doesn’t really reference a relationship, but it says, ‘Sitting with the finest example of a beautiful girl.’ I liked the way that line is. I liked the way it sounds, but I knew from then I was like, ‘I don’t ever want to say girl again in a song.’ I just knew that it hit the gut in a weird way. If you notice, from there, every other song we had was gender-neutral.” The LGBTQ+ community noticed, and they let him know. “Gay couples would get married and be like, ‘Man, it’s awesome. We like country music, but we can’t play any songs at our wedding because they all reference a girl, or [guy].'” T.J. says it was part of their strategy. He knew he’d eventually come out, and didn’t want 10 songs that say, ‘Girl’ because that would be strange for him.

Rice attended the game alongside his four-legged friend, Jack, who sported a special “NASHCAR” shirt in honor of the big race.
There was good singing at the Nashville Superspeedway on Sunday. “American Idol” finalist HUNTER GIRL and GARY LEVOX put their voices together for a live version of the Rascal Flatts’ song “Riot”. Gary even posted it online. Hunter Girl performed the song at an “Idol” audition this season.
