When pictures of BEN AFFLECK and JENNIFER LOPEZ hanging out in Miami surfaced, someone on Twitter noticed that Ben is wearing a watch that he used to wear 20 years ago, when they dated the FIRST time. It’s a silver chain link watch that he was seen wearing several times back in the day . . . most famously in Jennifer’s “Jenny from the Block” video. BLAKE SHELTON has a pretty good “back in the day” story from when he was new to the business. He was performing at a McDonald’s in Birmingham, Alabama as part of a radio promotion . . . and then this happened. “A guy is standing off to the side and he’s like, ‘Hey, you’re Blake, right?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, good to meet you.’ He says, ‘I brought something for you.’ He hands me this paper sack. I sat back down, and I looked in the sack and it was a bag of weed. “And I remember thinking, ‘Oh my god, I just got set up.’ He handed me this bag of weed . . . Are the police gonna show up? I ran to the bathroom and flushed it all down the toilet, which I never would’ve done now, right? Now, it’d be like, ‘hey, hey.’ “But at the time I was 24 years old in Alabama and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I just got set up and am going to jail’ . . . but I didn’t.”
If you want to be a country star, you better be talented. You gotta put in the work too. And that means performing everywhere you can, building up a fan base . . . and playing golf. You need to make the right connections, which is something RILEY GREEN did on the golf course. “When I got to Nashville, that’s what all the record label guys did. A lot of radio guys [too].” He still brings his clubs on the road so he can hang with the headliner, the other acts, and, yes, “important people” like us. “You do all these radio interviews and meetings, and you’re sitting in an office or a cubicle or something. But to be able to get out with somebody and enjoy a common hobby and just kinda talk like buddies is pretty neat.”
