MARTINA NAVRATILOVA and MARY CARILLO do NOT think SERENA WILLIAMS was the victim of a sexist chair umpire at the U.S. Open. They both say the rules are the rules, male or female.
SALLY FIELD is glad that BURT REYNOLDS died before he could’ve read her autobiography, because it would’ve “hurt” him. In the book, she describes their time together as “confusing and complicated,” and says that she probably dated him to fix the issues she had from her abusive stepfather.
Someone made a documentary about how BILL MURRAY likes to just show up at random places and hang out with regular people. It’s called “The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned From a Mythical Man”, and it’s out October 26th.
CARRIE UNDERWOOD’s new album “Cry Pretty” is out Friday. One of the songs is called “Bullet”, so somebody asked if it was “partly motivated” by the Route 91 tragedy. And even though she didn’t write it . . . she said it is. “Yes, definitely. It’s a beautiful and powerful song, and I thought for a long time whether or not I was the one to deliver its message. Unfortunately, too many events have happened and not just on a grand scale. “And any word I say right now is gonna be wrong. But too many people are going to relate to it . . . whether in the military, if they’re cops, or just people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s a song that needed to be sung.” According to Taste of Country, the song describes a gun death and how a bullet keeps moving [symbolically] long after it has hit the target, ripping holes in the hearts of everyone the deceased knew and loved. That’s heavy stuff. And . . . in completely different Carrie Underwood news: She Tweeted that she’ll be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 20th, which is a week from tomorrow. Simon Cowell and Brad Paisley will be there.
This year’s “CMT Artists of the Year” special is going to be all female. As in, every honoree will be a woman. We’re talking Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini . . . plus Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman . . . and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott. Is this their way of recognizing the #MeToo movement? Of course. And maybe the dreadful lack of female Entertainer of the Year nominees at the CMAs and ACMs. Mostly it’s a start, and it’s appreciated. Maren Morris Tweeted, “Thank you for narrowing the gap in this industry. Proud to be honored among friends this night.” Kelsea Ballerini said, “Goodness, I love you CMT.” Hillary Scott wrote, “This puts a smile on my face like no other.” And Little Big Town gave a shout-out. Quote, “Couldn’t be any prouder to stand alongside these inspiring women.
JASON ALDEAN is cancelling tomorrow’s show in Cincinnati because of the weather. He Tweeted, “Due to the unprecedented amount of rainfall causing the Ohio River to rise above flood stage, the concert scheduled for September 13th has been cancelled. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.”
CHRIS JANSON tells Pop Culture that he thought of his children when he wrote “Drunk Girl”. Quote, “If our daughters get into a ‘Drunk Girl’ situation, we want them to be treated with great reverence and respect. [We] believe you should take care of your fellow human. It’s really the bottom line.”
