Darius Rucker Makes Musical Memories Visiting Patients at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York

Following his appearance on the Today show Tuesday (Feb. 21), Darius Rucker made it a priority to visit patients at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City as a volunteer for Musicians On Call.

Musicians On Call is a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in hospitals across the country. A long time supporter of the organization, Darius went room to room in the orthopedic rehab unit, taking requests and performing for hospital staff along the way.

The South Carolina native played his No. 1 hit “Wagon Wheel” before treating patients to Hootie & The Blowfish tunes like, “Hold My Hand” and “Only Wanna Be With You.”

As for the reason Darius takes the time to visit the hospitals, “See the look on their faces, especially when they hear a song they know. They are just so happy. There is nothing better than that,” he tells NBC Nightly News. You never feel bad leaving there. You see a kid who’s sick and their whole family is in there and you walk in and you know that you are just helping them a little bit.”
