Watch Vince Gill Perform “Go Rest High on That Mountain” to Honor Fallen Nashville Police Officer Eric Mumaw

On Monday (Feb. 6), a memorial service was held for Nashville police officer Eric Mumaw, 44, who died in the line of duty on Feb. 2 while trying to rescue a woman who had driven into the frigid waters of the Cumberland River.

Officer Mumaw, who was an 18-year veteran of the police force, was awarded the Medal of Valor, NPD’s highest honor.

During the public memorial service that was attended by thousands, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jamey Johnson paid their respects by singing “Some Gave All,” while Vince Gill performed “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” a song he wrote and recorded in 1994.

“To Eric’s mother, I want to sing this song for you today,” said Vince. “This was a song I wrote when I lost my brother 25 years ago, 24 years ago. And he passed right around the same age as Eric, and I watched my mother have to go through this. It was very difficult, but I wrote this song for the love of a brother, and today I want to sing it for all of you, for your love for your brother.”
