You would think RODNEY DANGERFIELD was a guy who could be trusted to give good comedy advice. But that wasn’t EDDIE MURPHY’s experience. Eddie says Rodney gave him the WORST advice he’s ever gotten. Eddie was only 17 or 18, and doing standup at a club in Fort Lauderdale.  Rodney was there, so Eddie asked him to check out his set and see what he thought. Rodney told him, “Hey, kid, I don’t know where you’re gonna go with that, you know?  The language, and the race stuff.” Eddie was disappointed – but as we all know, he made it big doing it HIS way. A few years later, he ran into Rodney in the bathroom at Caesar’s Palace.  Eddie says, “I look over, and he looks at me and says, ‘Hey, who knew?'”

New York Giants quarterback ELI MANNING will announce his retiremen, after 16 years with the team. He’s 39 years old. Team President John Mara said, “Eli is our only two-time Super Bowl MVP and one of the very best players in our franchise’s history.  He represented our franchise as a consummate professional with dignity and accountability. It meant something to Eli to be the Giants quarterback, and it meant even more to us. We are beyond grateful for his contributions to our organization.” Manning holds almost every passing record in Giants history, and led the team to two Super Bowl victories over the New England Patriots . . . after the 2007 and 2011 seasons.  He was named MVP of both games. The only other players to be Super Bowl MVP twice are Joe Montana, Bart Starr, Tom Brady, and Terry Bradshaw. He leaves the game after making more than $250 million from his football contracts, the most in NFL history. Those two championships are probably gonna get him into the Hall of Fame.  He never missed a game due to injury, and started 210 consecutive games before being temporarily benched last season.  That puts him third on the all-time list for quarterbacks, behind Brett Favre and Philip Rivers.

The Philadelphia Flyers got a lot of attention a few years ago when they created their new mascot, Gritty. He’s a big, furry, orange creature who went viral for being nightmare fuel. According to the Philadelphia police, Gritty is now under investigation for assault.  Back in November, Gritty was doing a photoshoot with fans.  And one 13-year-old kid hit Gritty on the head after a photo – the kid’s dad says the kid, “playfully patted” Gritty. But apparently that infuriated him, and Gritty allegedly got up and PUNCHED the kid in the back. The Flyers say they investigated, the person in the Gritty costume denied everything, and no witnesses backed up the story, so they dropped it.  But the police aren’t so sure . . . so they’re still investigating.

Monty Python star TERRY JONES died Tuesday night. He was 77 years old. His family said he passed with his wife by his side after, “a long, extremely brave but always good humored battle with a rare form of dementia, FTD.” Terry was a founding member of the Monty Python comedy troupe.

BRAD PITT and JENNIFER ANISTON . . . they talk, they touch, they sit near each other at award shows. Well, a survey of nearly 8,000 people finally sheds light on whether we, as a country, NEED it to happen. And the result is . . . we’re kind of ambivalent. 23% of respondents said they should date again, while 16% said they shouldn’t. The other 61% DON’T KNOW. Brad and Jen were married from 2000 to 2005.

People just love asking BLAKE SHELTON about his mullet. I guess that’s the price paid for having one of the “10 Best Mullets” in country music history.  And because he’s a smart guy he’s learned to embrace the whole thing. He’s even ready to give it a second go.  This came up in the interview he and GWEN STEFANI did for the “Gayle King Grammy Special”, which airs tonight on CBS. He said, “It’s coming back.  There’s kids that are wearing mullets now.  And I’m feeling like maybe it’s time for me to bring mine back.  I’m not a trendsetter.  [But] I don’t mind jumping in on a trend like that.” Gayle asked Gwen if she’s cool with the idea.  She is.  “I’ve actually offered to go get him some extensions.  We could totally match the color easily.” Blake and Gwen will be performing “Nobody But You” on the Grammys, and Blake is up for Best Country Solo Performance for “God’s Country”.

Getting a new dog is always a handful. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Nick Jonas gave an update on his and Priyanka Chopra’s new German Shepherd puppy, Gino. The pup was a gift from Priyanka to Nick for their first wedding anniversary in December, but as it turns out, life with Gino is a little messier than expected.
