ROBERT DOWNEY JR. opened the “People’s Choice Awards” last night by presenting the Comedy Act of 2019 award to KEVIN HART. He said, “First and foremost, man, thank God because I definitely don’t have to be here. Being that I am it makes me appreciate life even more.  It makes me appreciate the things that really matter.” PINK received the People’s Champion Award for her activism, and used her time to urge the rest of us to get involved. She said, “I care about decency and humanity and kindness . . . There are people who don’t have what you have, help them get it . . . Stop fighting each other and help each other. “Get together with your friends and change the [effing] world.”  BLAKE SHELTON then took Pink’s cue and dropped a little profanity into HIS speech when he won Country Artist of the Year.  He said, “GWEN STEFANI, I love the [poop] outta you.” Earlier in the night, Gwen accepted the Fashion Icon Award. JENNIFER ANISTON received the People’s Icon Award, and made sure to thank her “Friends” co-stars. , saying, “If I have any claim to this word Icon, it’s only because I was able to be on an iconic show, with an iconic cast, and an iconic haircut.” She also gave props to ADAM SANDLER, who presented the award.  She said, “I love this man with all of my heart – this is one of the kindest human beings you’ll ever meet, aside from being one of the most talented, and generous.” COLE SPROUSE from “Five Feet Apart” pulled an upset for the Drama Award, over LEONARDO DICAPRIO and BRAD PITT. He told them, “Just keep your heads up, don’t let this dishearten you.  You guys are gonna be here one day.”

DAVID HASSELHOFF says his popularity in Germany kicked off when a female fan from Austria told him his album was #1 in her country. He started touring there and became a star.  Then, of course, he performed “Looking for Freedom” on the Berlin Wall, which really made him a star.

The original Marlboro Man, Robert Norris, died earlier this month, at the age of 90. Interestingly, he NEVER SMOKED.  In fact, he gave up the gig after 14 years – he didn’t want his kids picking up the habit.

OPRAH has released her annual “Favorite Things” holiday gift guide. There’s plenty of stuff the average person can afford. But of course some items are going to be out of most people’s price range. Like the $878 espresso machine – the $195 lighted makeup mirror – the $108 “smart” dog collar complete with an activity monitor and GPS tracking – and the $1,599 exercise bike. A 6-ounce bottle of hot sauce that costs $35.  It’s called Truff, and it’s made with ripe chili peppers, organic agave nectar, white truffle, and coriander.

Former NHL star JEREMY ROENICK says that back in 1992, he and Michael Jordan played 2 rounds of golf with Jordan, where they both drank about 10 Bud Lights. And Jordan had a game against the Cavs that night. So Roenick started teasing Jordan, saying he was going to put all his money on Cleveland.  Jordan told him, “I’ll bet you that we’ll win by 20 points and I have more than 40 [points].'”  Roenick took the bet. Jordan scored 52 points, and the Bulls won by about 26.  Roenick says Jordan was, “probably the best athlete” he’s ever seen.

There’s been a lot of focus on ALEX TREBEK’s health, but now there’s concern for “Wheel of Fortune” host PAT SAJAK. Pat had emergency surgery to “correct a blocked intestine” last Thursday, and everything went well. But VANNA WHITE will host the show while he recovers. Vanna taped her first episodes on Friday, and they’ll air starting on December 9th.  No official word how long Pat is expected out – TMZ says it’ll be around 2 weeks. Vanna has filled in for Pat once before, back when he had laryngitis in 1996.  They’ve co-hosted the show since 1983. They’re in the middle of taping “Disney Week,” so it sounds like they’ll have Mickey Mouse turning the letters.

CARLY PEARCE remembers back in August when MICHAEL RAY informed her she was a CMA “New Artist of the Year” nominee. They were at home, but she was making eggs and NOT watching because ASHLEY MCBRYDE had already been nominated. Carly was sure there wouldn’t be two females in the category.  “I was completely shocked and burned our eggs.  We ended up eating them though, but I just started running around the house.  It was a really powerful moment for females, and to have that pure moment that I will forever have.  [I] had no words.”
