The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team defeated the Netherlands 2-0 in the 2019 Women’s World Cup final in France yesterday. The Americans were favored to win since the beginning, even before that epic first match, where they beat Thailand 13-0 . . . scoring more goals in one game than the men’s team has scored in every World Cup since 2006 combined. It’s their fourth overall. Their previous World Cup wins came in 2015, which was the last World Cup, and in 1999 and 1991.

 

A two-car accident involving Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Kendrick Norton resulted in his left arm being amputated. Paramedics amputated his arm to remove him from a rolled-over vehicle.  Norton is in critical condition although the injuries are not believed to be life threatening.  Norton’s agent said, “We ask that you continue to pray for him.  His family also asks that the public respect Kendrick’s privacy.”

 

JOEY CHESTNUT won the annual ‘Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest’ at Coney Island again last week. He downed 71 hot dogs in 10 minutes.  That’s 3 short of his own record of 74, which he set last year.  The year before, he devoured 72. This is his 12th win in 13 years. The women’s champ was once again Miki Sudo, who downed 31 in 10 minutes.  She’s won six years in a row now.

 

During a festival show in London on Saturday, STEVIE WONDER informed the crowd that he’s taking a break because he’s getting a new kidney in September. “I’m all good, I’m all good, all good, I have a donor and it’s all good. I want you to know, I came here to give you my love and thank you for your love. You ain’t got to hear no rumors.  I told you what’s up.  I am good.  I love you and God bless you.” Stevie has three more shows before the surgery.  He’s 69.

 

20 year old actor CAMERON BOYCE died of an undisclosed medical condition over the weekend. He played Adam Sandler’s son Keith in the “Grown Ups” movies, and did work for the Disney Channel.

 

Comedian ARTE JOHNSON has died. He was 90 years old.  He was probably best known for his work on the show “Laugh-In”.

 

BLAKE SHELTON’s attempt to do the Bottle Cap Challenge was so unsuccessful that it caused him to burst into tears. But that’s only because he almost ruined a good bottle of Smithworks Vodka.

Bernard Tomic was fined $56,100 – the total of his prize money – for his defeat to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga because he didn’t play hard enough. The match was the shortest men’s singles match at Wimbledon since 2004 with Tomic losing 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4.  Wimbledon officials said in a statement, “It is the opinion of the Referee that the performance of Bernard Tomic… did not meet the required professional standards.”

 

The opening run of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, on Sunday left at least five people — including three runners who were gored — hospitalized.

 

In its debut week weekend, Spider-Man: Far From Home was the box office champ. In its six-day start (Tuesday-Sunday) Spider-Man made $185 million. Friday-Sunday it brought in $93.6 million.
