While everyone else was fleeing the Carolina coast, JIMMY BUFFETT went running toward it. Yesterday, Jimmy posted a picture of himself and another dude on Folly Beach in South Carolina, holding surfboards.  In the caption he said, “I ain’t afraid of dying, I got no need to explain.  I feel like going surfing in a hurricane.”  And he hashtagged it, “FollyBeachSurfing”

Have you ever listened to music that was SO GOOD it gave you GOOSEBUMPS? Like when Clay Aiken sang “Bridge Over Troubled Water” on “American Idol”. According to a new study out of Harvard, if music has ever given you goosebumps and made the hairs on your arm stand up, that’s actually a sign you’re THRIVING. The researchers found that about 55% of people had THAT strong of an emotional connection to music, and they were more likely to be healthier, happier, friendlier . . . and even WEALTHIER. They also found that women were more likely to get goosebumps from music than men. Music isn’t the only thing that gives some people goosebumps. 25% had them when someone said “I love you” for the first time . . . 23% had them when their child was born . . . and 16% had them when they saw their partner walk down the aisle at their wedding.

“Modern Family” is killing off a character this season. One of the producers says it’ll be a “significant” character, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a MAIN character. He adds, “[It] will be a moving event . . . and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.

GRETCHEN WILSON is getting off easy from last month’s “breach of peace” arrest when she caused a disturbance on a flight, and then demanded the officers on the ground arrest her. She was in court yesterday in Connecticut and the charges are being dropped. All she has to do is donate $500 to a charity for injured crime victims, and then stay out of trouble in that jurisdiction for 13 months. She told reporters, “I’m a person like everyone else and we’ve all had bad days.  It’s just that celebrities are targeted when they have one.”

GARTH BROOKS and TRISHA YEARWOOD will celebrate 13 years of marriage in December, but the way he talks, it’s like they’re just getting started. “We like to be together.  We don’t like to be apart. “We didn’t get married to be apart, so we’re gonna be together all the time.”  They’re both big stars so their schedules don’t always match up, but he has a solution and enough money to get past that.

Tragic news for ALAN JACKSON and his family. His son-in-law, Ben Selecman, died after injuring himself in a fall on a boat dock.  He passed away on Wednesday. The accident happened over a week ago. He married Alan’s daughter Mattie last October. He was 28.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD will flip the switch on the 10th annual “Opry Goes Pink” event, which supports breast cancer awareness. She’ll be performing two shows that night.  It’s happening October 26th.

It’s official: KELSEA BALLERINI and THE CHAINSMOKERS are releasing a song next Tuesday.  The still haven’t announced the title.

LORETTA LYNN’s new album “Wouldn’t It Be Great” will be out September 28th, but you can listen to the track “Ruby’s Stool” now. It’s very old school.

If you’re looking for an impromptu road trip, this could work. Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge will celebrate its 58th birthday with a FREE show on Lower Broadway in Nashville, on October 10th.  Performers include Jake Owen, Randy Houser, Terri Clark, Travis Tritt, Eddie Montgomery, Darryl Worley, and Kid Rock.

“The Predator” is out this weekend.  It’s up against the Anna Kendrick thriller “A Simple Favor”.
